Our Philosophy

Our campus will be a caring, safe, and equitable environment where each student can blossom and grow. We will provide each student the possibility to become responsible members of our classroom community by using strategies such as class meetings, positive discipline, and democratic principles. In showing students how to become responsible for themselves as well as their own learning, we are providing them the tools to become successful in life, to believe in themselves, and be productive citizens.

Our History

Geddes was founded in 1889 through a bequest from Tyrin Green Geddes, a Philadelphia-born, European-educated engineer, musician and artist who married John C. Calhoun’s daughter, Anna Maria, and eventually settled in South Carolina. A longtime advocate for an agricultural college in the Upstate, Geddes left his home and fortune to the state of South Carolina to create the institution that bears his name.
